Dan Hokstad
Dan Hokstad was born in Longueuil, a suburb of Montréal, Québec. As a member of an RCAF family, he moved around quite a bit: living in Tacoma, Washington, North Bay, Ontario, and in Tønder, on the Danish-German border. He has fought forest-fires in Northern Ontario, reported on news and entertainment in Stratford, and brings life, vitality, and love of literature to high school classrooms in North Bay. Mostly teaching university-preparation English classes, he has also taught everything from Kindergarten to history at the College level. He attended Carleton University, Fanshawe College, Canadore College and Nipissing University. A former broadcaster,Mr. Hokstad was a

reporter and on-air personality at several radio stations across Ontario. Returning to university to complete his studies in English and history, he became a teacher so that he could concentrate his efforts on writing. He has written plays for high school, and also composes a regular column for The North Bay Nugget. His writing reflects his travels and experiences: a unique worldview that is hilariously satirical, refreshingly candid, and charmingly poignant. Mr. Hokstad is a loving husband, and a dedicated father of two. The Sacred Ash: A Modern Myth in Three Seasons is his first book. You can find him on the web at: www.danhokstad.com.
