The Punishing Avenger

RAY JOHNSON

Incredibly wealthy people have been raping and pillaging rain forests and virgin lands with impunity. Numerous innocent people have been killed because of this avarice. A group that calls itself the Punishing Avenger is killing and maiming these wealthy people where greed means more to them than human life.

$4.99

CIA agent, Rick Jefferies, is assigned to investigate these atypical crimes. This murderous group attempts to portray themselves as modern day Robin Hoods, protecting the innocent while punishing the guilty. To enhance that media image, they avoid any collateral damage, while rewarding their victims. Powerful politicians increasingly fear one of their affluent contributors might be the next target. Rick, a lone wolf agent, is assigned an unwanted partner as the stakes rise.

Rick does not buy into the Robin Hood and his merry men portrayal. He and his new partner hunt down the killers from Las Vegas, to a Mississippi riverboat and finally to the outskirts of Dallas, dodging bullets and to bring true justice to the Punishing Avenger.

EXCERPT

RICK REREAD THE MACABRE newspaper article, going over point by point, feeling that the shooting would trigger a phone call from the Deputy Director. Sabrina also read the gruesome article, but had no idea that she would soon be involved in attempting to solve the atypical crime; maiming, rather than murder.

Even though nighttime, the image viewed by the rifleman through the Swarovski Z6 riflescope mounted on a Weatherby .300 magnum rifle was as clear as daylight; its crosshairs centered on the judge’s chest as he stood with his blond companion outside a favorite watering hole of the rich and powerful of Washington DC, awaiting his Cadillac SUV to be brought from the parking garage.

The rifleman’s vantage point was a third floor bedroom window in an exclusive apartment complex, across the street from the restaurant. It was a ridiculously simple shot for the accomplished marksman.

The judge was fifty-five years old, short, average build and displaying distressing signs of balding; and was seriously contemplating a toupee. The woman was a stunningly beautiful honey blond who had been charged with embezzling from her company’s pension fund. The judge had been instrumental in keeping her from being prosecuted, using his influence and her money to have the firm’s hapless accountant convicted instead, the sentence he received being a six-year term, with no reduction for time served. The blond felt that she had to suffer the judge’s sexual demands in case the district attorney decided to file charges against her also. But the judge knew better and constantly reminded her that it was only his influence and reputation keeping the DA at bay. Judicial rape most closely described their relationship.
